Swimming Pool is a place, where one may get Recreational Water Illness ( RWI)

Common RWI are Diarrhea, Eye, Nose, Skin infections.  If one of the swimmer is infected, his/her body discharges, infect the pool water.  Hence it is essential to disinfect the Pool water completely, to make it safe for Swimmers.  

Possible Sources of Infection are  

  • Body discharges such as mucous from the nose, saliva, sweat, fecal matter, urine, dead skin.
  • Street and workplace soil, body lotions, suntan creams, dust, pollen, air pollutants, animals droppings, insects.
  • Germs from other swimmers and unsafe water supplies can easily contaminate pool water, especially if it isn’t properly disinfected

Common Pathogens found in Pool are

  • Bacteria, such as E. coli,shigella, campylobacter and salmonella.
  • Protozoa, such as cryptosporidium (which causes diarrhea), and giardia, also known for its severe gastrointestinal effects. and
  • Hepatitis A and noroviruses.

Disinfection:

In normal means, Chlorine ( or its products) or Ozone are used for disinfection.

However, these are general purpose disinfectors, and less effective at certain conditions like higher pH.  Ozone treatment is capital intensive and costlier to operate.

CrystalPool:
