Dimethyl Disulphide ( CH3-SS-CH3) ( CAS no 624-92-0) is the simplest disulphide, with rich sulphur content. Its used as solvent, intermediate of pesticides. In oil refining industry, widely used as activator of catalyst used in certain products(including naphtha, gasoline, kerosene, diesel oil) hydrodesulfurization, hydroforming and hydrocracking process. Once injected to a hydrotreater or hydrocracker, DMDS decomposes to form H2S. The H2S reacts with the metal oxides on the catayst, converting them to the active metal sulfide form. In agricultural chemistry, used to prepare Fenthion.
